EUROVISION 2023 REVIEW: Ukraine

As promised, I will be reviewing each Eurovision entry in the most inconsistent way possible. The entries will be reviewed in a random order using my personal wheel on the Wheel of Names website.

First up is the defending champs Ukraine. They are sending Tvorchi to Liverpool with “Heart of Steel”

Date chosen: December 17, 2022 (artist & song)

Method: Through a national final called “Vidbir 2023”. 10 acts performed for a chance to defend the trophy in an underground train station (due to the Russian invasion). Ukraine also could not host Eurovision on home soil, hence joining forces with the United Kingdom in Liverpool

What I think: Like most Ukrainian entries, I wasn’t really feeling the song. I just thought it had a nice beat. The revamp was an improvement, but my ranking is pretty much the same since it was chosen back in December

Ranking: 7/10

Chance (of qualifying and/or winning): Ukraine is already in the final. As such, bookmakers have been ranking this within the top 5 even before other countries chose their entries. Unlike last year, I don’t really see this making the left side of the scoreboard. I would say hovering over 20th place would be more realistic.
