EUROVISION 2023 REVIEW: Slovenia

As promised, I will be reviewing each Eurovision entry in the most inconsistent way possible. The entries will be reviewed in a random order using my personal wheel on the Wheel of Names website.

Next is Slovenia. They are sending Joker Out with Carpe Diem

Date chosen: December 8, 2022 (artist), February 4, 2023 (song)

Method: Joker Out was internally chosen by TV station RTV SLO to represent Slovenia in Liverpool. Their song “Carpe Diem” was presented on February 4, 2023 and the music video was released shortly after

What I think: This is one of those songs where the live version supersedes the studio version and I am here for it. Between the reception and the band’s promotional tour pre-contest, they could potentially make a dent at the contest in May. However, it’s not really my cup of tea, but I could play it a few times over if I’m in a mood for it

Ranking: 6/10

Chance (of qualifying and/or winning): 90% on qualifying, winning it would be a different story, but they are, of course, ready to seize the day

Live performances in Slovenia, Spain, and Poland
