EUROVISION 2023 REVIEW: Israel

As promised, I will be reviewing each Eurovision entry in the most inconsistent way possible. The entries will be reviewed in a random order using my personal wheel on the Wheel of Names website.

Next is Israel. They are sending Noa Kirel with Unicorn

Date chosen: August 10, 2022 (artist); March 8, 2023 (song)

Method: Noa was initially chosen on July 11, 2022 to represent Israel in 2023. However, there was a month of back and forth between her and TV station KAN before she was officially announced almost a month later. Her song Unicorn was released on March 8, 2023

What I think: I mean, it’s quite good. I wouldn’t say it’s as phenomenal as the song’s hook said it is, but it’s listenable enough to maybe play it a few times before moving on. Upon hearing the announcement, I was worried that she would be labeled as an “industry plant”, which is a way to write off artists people don’t like, but it doesn’t seem like that is the case. I’m happy with Israel’s choice and hopefully they may get back in the final

Ranking: 7.5/10

Chance (of qualifying and/or winning): 70% yes

I haven’t found a live performance of this, but if there are, I’ll come back to add it
